Beware of Dupes: A Warning About Copycat Glitter Palettes on Alibaba

At Slayfire Cosmetics, we’ve always believed in doing things the right way. Every glitter gel and palette we create is handcrafted by our small family team with care, ethics, and quality in mind. But recently, we’ve seen our work being copied by overseas manufacturers and resold by other businesses, and we want to make sure our customers and fellow creators are aware of what’s happening.

What’s Going On

Several listings have appeared on Alibaba selling glitter palettes that are near-exact copies of our original designs. These manufacturers aren’t just drawing “inspiration” from our products. They are copying entire palettes, including the exact color layouts, and in some cases, have even stolen our original product and swatch photos to market them.

While we’ve worked to have stolen images removed, the copying continues. These manufacturers monitor our new releases and replicate them almost immediately, offering bulk versions to anyone willing to buy and resell them.

Now we’re starting to see those same knockoff products being resold by small businesses, some of which may not know they’re buying fake versions of our work. Others may know and choose to sell them anyway.

How to Spot the Difference

The difference between real Slayfire products and the copies is noticeable once you’ve seen them up close. Here’s what to look for.

Our glitter gels are highly concentrated and made with a whipped, soft texture that glides on smoothly and blends beautifully. Once applied, they dry down fully, locking in place for long wear that resists creasing and smudging. We use cruelty free, vegan ingredients sourced from the United States, and we always disclose what goes into our formulas. You know exactly what you’re putting on your face.

The knockoffs, by comparison, are much wetter and jelly-like. They feel heavy and slippery, and often never dry down properly. This can lead to patchy application, glitter migration, or product breakdown within a short period of wear. Most importantly, these Alibaba listings do not include any ingredient information at all. That should raise immediate concern, especially for any product being used on the face or around the eyes.

Here are some side-by-side photo comparisons of our original palettes next to the mass-produced copy. In most cases, they didn’t even bother changing the colors. They attempted to match them as closely as possible, glitter for glitter. While not everything is a perfect match, the intent to copy is undeniable.

Why This Matters

This isn’t just about being copied. It’s about how deeply unfair and damaging it is for indie brands like ours. Slayfire Cosmetics is not a corporation. We are a small, family run business. Every product is developed, tested, hand-filled, and packed by our small team, and most of that work is done by me personally. And we have countless videos showing that process, so it’s heartbreaking to hear that we’ve even been accused of being the ones selling these fake palettes.

It couldn’t be further from the truth. We work hard to stand out and offer something better. These copycats take everything we’ve created and mass-produce it without the care, without the safety standards, and without the integrity. When a manufacturer copies our designs and sells them in bulk with no regard for quality or safety, it doesn’t just hurt our brand. It damages trust in the indie beauty space as a whole.

What You Can Do

If you’re a customer, your support is already helping us to continue creating. Every purchase from Slayfire helps our family continue doing what we love and ensures you’re getting the real thing: a product that's safe, ethically made, and high quality.

If you’re a small business, we urge you to be cautious when sourcing products. If a palette looks suspiciously like one from a known indie brand, it probably is. Ask questions. Look into the supplier. Be mindful of what and who you’re supporting.

Copying hurts everyone in the long run. Supporting original creators helps keep the beauty industry creative, safe, and honest.
