How to Apply Glitter Gels Over Eyeshadow and Other Makeup

If you love layering your sparkle, this one’s for you. ✨ While our Glitter Application Instructions cover the general basics of using our handcrafted glitter gels, this post goes a little deeper into how to apply them over eyeshadow and other makeup for that multidimensional, long wearing shine.

💫 Layering Over Eyeshadow

Our glitter gels play beautifully with both powdered and cream eyeshadows. Whether you are topping a smoky eye with some shimmer or adding celestial sparkle to a bold cut crease, the key is to tap lightly in layers.

Start with fully set eyeshadow, and always make sure your shadows are primed first.
Use your fingertip since it is the best tool for the job.
Tap the glitter gel gently over your makeup rather than swiping.
Build up the shine in thin layers, letting each layer dry before adding the next.

Some very light eyeshadow transfer may happen, if any, but it will not disturb your look or dull your sparkle.

🌙 What Works Best

Powder and cream bases work perfectly for layering. The gel will glide on smoothly and stay locked in place once dry.
Water activated paints are not the best match. Since our glitter gels contain water, applying them over water based paints can cause lifting or smudging. For those looks, we recommend using our eyeshadow gels instead, since they are formulated to layer easily over water activated makeup.

💡 Pro Tip

Try blending two glitter gels together directly on your fingertip before applying. They layer beautifully over each other, creating custom color dimensions and sparkle effects that shift with every blink.
